Haven’t posted anything for a couple of day’s so we decided to leave you guy’s with the obligatory stiff arm video.  Enjoy…  This has got to be the Illest stiff arm I’ve ever seen!

Similar to HipHop, another staple and unmistakable cultural thread woven into the fabric of American society and culture that is often said to be dead as well is “The Sweet Science” also known as the sport of boxing.  Anyone who knows me personally, knows that Boxing is far from dead in my mind, nor is HipHop.  I grew up boxing as a young kid, and have always had a strong love for the sport that taught me many life lessons, and has served to present undreamable opportunities for many people that often come from what is seen as the underside of society.  HipHop, of coarse, shares this attribute and is said to be dead due to the very same reasons that boxing is….  money, greed and over-exploitation.Perhaps it was also greed that was a motivating factor leading to the off brand and hastily conjured match up between 2 of the sports best fighters last night in Atlantic City, Bernard “the Executioner” Hopkins and Kelly “the Ghost” Pavlik.  Kelly Pavlik is seen as one of the sports highest rising stars who’s most highlighted achievement was twice defeating Olympic medalist and former middleweight champ Jermain Taylor (if you haven’t already, I suggest watching their first bout which is definitely one of the best ppv fights in recent history).  Hopkins is quite possibly the youngest 43 year old on the planet, has never been knocked out and throughout the 90’s held the middleweight title longer than any other fighter in history. The Physics sat down to watch the fight last night and were thrilled to witness another great moment in boxing history as Hopkins pulled off a surprise victory in one of his best performances ever.  It is in tribute of this future hall-of-famer Bernard Hopkins that I post this short video put together by HBO that chronicles his story.

Enjoy!

Aside from being the homie, Gabe is one of the most talented artists in the northwest. So naturally, I was excited to peep the music video for Tizita. I was initially intrigued with the concept, given its east african orgin but even more so after Gabe broke it down to me:

Tizita…Amharic word & common name… loosely translates as “to remember, with nostalgia”

“There’s a ton of old ethiopian love songs all about a woman named Tizita… they’re usually like the break-up songs, or the “i remember back when, now she’s gone” type jawns… so my cut is like a nod to that whole era of ethiopian music, but the Tizita i’m rapping out isn’t even a person… “she’s” a metaphor for collective memory, and how it gets lost from the “back-home” generation to our diaspora generation.”

That’s tite.

Yall missed out if you didn’t peep DJ Statik Selektah’s album Spell My Name Right which came out late last year which had some of the dopest tracks to come out of NY in 2007. This time around Statik is continuing his trend with his new album Stick 2 The Script which drops at the end of this month. Till then peep out out this video of the title track with Cassidy, Saigon and Termanology rippin it.

My dude Yirim Seck has been hard at work in the studio gearin up for his solo project that he tells me will hit the streets soon. In preparation, Yirim and his brother, Inye, put together this video to give people a more personal look into Yirim’s day to day life and his music. I’d personally like to see more videos like this for other artists around the town..the good ones at least..

Fire House

This weekend we had the pleasure of playin with the homies Truckasaurus at The Old Fire House in Redmond. The mixed bills are fun because they are a good change of pace and you get a nice mix of good music. After our set, Meli gave us a tour of the place. The Fire House is actually a teen center but its dope because if you’re 13-19, you can pretty much go there and hang out, skate, take art classes, develop pictures, play pool, see live bands and intern as a d.j or sound engineer (they have their own studio). Thx to Steph for the pic.
