Here is Manny Paquiao knocking out Ricky Hatton from the fight this weekend.
I can watch this over and over again.
And it just makes me think of this…

Manny Pacquiao from Brian Harty on Vimeo.

Saturday is almost upon us and I wouldn’t miss the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight for the world!  Well I guess I would miss it “For the World”, whatever that even means anyway.  I guess if it meant the world was going to blow up and the only way to save the world from its demise was for me not to watch the fight then I would miss it.  But if it meant that I could skip watching the fight to instead watch the world blow up, then I would still rather watch the fight. (Does that make sense to you?  Yea, me neither).  Go PacMan!

Also James Kirkland is in jail on a concealed firearms charge and since the boxing god’s were not able to convince a judge to let him out he will not be fighting on the May 2nd undercard.  His replacement is going to be fellow rising star Daniel “The golden Child” Jacobs who has 15 wins 0 loses, with 12 ending within 2 rounds by KO (14 KO’s overall btw).  He’ll be fighting veteran Mike Walker (19-1-2, 12 KO’s), who was originally scheduled to fight Kirkland.

Other boxing update’s that u probably care little about, follow as such;

-Jaun Manuel Marquez beat Juan Diaz’s ass (I think it ended in the 9th)

-Floyd Mayweather jr. and JaunMa Marquez are said to be close to finalizing a bout on HBO PPV for July 18, at a catch weight of 145!  Yessir!

-Carl Frotch beat Jermain Taylor in the final seconds of the last round of a fight in which he was behind.  (Taylor should be pumping your gas or trying to rap/ sell beats very soon)

-JaunMa Lopez is the truth (25-0, 23 KO’s).  Recently beat veteran/ Freddie Roach trained Gerry Penalosa.

-Cotto vs. Clottey is going down!  Clottey is my face book hommie and we actually had brief unintelligible correspondence via his comment’s (I’m sure u really care about this).

I know I’m forgetting some stuff, but I’m typing this at work and am ready to BOUNCE!

How bout you do yourself a favor and tune into HBO around 6:30pm this Saturday before you go out and kick it in the rain.  One of my favorite young fighters, Paul “the Punisher” Williams will be taking on the strong defensive veteran and future hall of fammer “Winky” Ronald Wright.  Both of these fighters have been overtly avoided over the years, and step into the ring on Saturday to face off in a fight that seems to promise little reward and high risk for both fighters.

I do think that it will be a good fight for the fact that Winky cannot afford to play defensive possum with the young and faster Williams.  If Winky wants to win, he will have to be aggressive, initiate attacks and throw punches over the gloves of Williams.  This specific plan of attack was implemented against Williams in his first bout against Carlos Quintana, and showed to be an effective strategy.  Winky is stronger that P. Will and I can see that being a factor in this fight, though I am routing for Williams to win by KO.

Equally as exciting will be the first installment of 24/7 Pacquiao vs Hatton airing prior to the bout…  Oh yea Chris Arreola will be fighting Jameel McCline too (Snoooore).

So manager/co-trainer/waste of space Leonard Ellerbe is making his rounds in an effort to announce and promote the possible return of his fighter Floyd Mayweather jr in 09′.  Say’s Ellerbe “Floyd is willing to evalluate any and all Big Fights” presented to the Mayweather team.  According to Ellerbe, Mayweather wants to move staight in to a mega-fight deal with the response to a tune-up fight being an emphatic “Hell-no”.Obviously the Mayweather jr camp is positioning themselves for the winner of the Pacquiao vs Hatton fight that is close to happening and will likely take place on May 2nd.   It sounds to me like Floyd is expecting Pac-Man to win that one as Floyd has already begun his pre-fight promotional trash talking by stateing  “(Pacquiao) is a good fighter but, I’ll beat his ass!”

To be fair, here’s a vid from the guythat Mayweather jr. bit his style from, probably after uncle Roger got beatup by him.  Pernell Whitaker!

Sometime in 2001 I heard that Freddie Roach was training a Filipino fighter and I was curious to see who the guy was. Being that I was living in Las Vegas at the time I was able to watch in person, Manny Pacquiao capture what if I remember correctly was an IBF Super bantamweight title from Lehlohonolo Ledwaba. I’ve been following Manny’s career ever since.
Manny is by far my favorite fighter. I’m half Filipino and my mom was born in PI, though growing up I never felt a palpable connection to the Philippines or to my culture. Perhaps sadly, I never knew what it was to be proud of my heritage and Filipino roots until I started following Manny Pacquiao and saw how he carried himself in and outside of the ring. I now know what this significant feeling is and every time Manny fights I’m filled with extreme excitement, investment and pride.

Tonight Pacquiao will take on “The Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the very place I saw Manny fight for the first time in 2001. I will be pulling for Manny all the way, though I must be honest in saying that I am skeptical about his chances in this fight.

Hopefully I am dead wrong.

Personally my 2nd favorite fighter next to the Great Manny Pacquiao is a 6’3” welterweight by the name of Paul “The Punisher” Williams (above).  Paul has had such a hard time getting anyone of significance to fight him at 147lbs that he has been forced to fight his last 2 bouts at higher weight classes.  Williams is kinda a freak of nature with his speed, volume of punching (averaging over 100 punches per round), and his reach at 82 INCHES!!  (To put that in perspective the 2 Klitchko brothers that have been at the top of the heavyweight division for the past decade have spans of 80 and 81 inches respectively!)

After avenging his 1st and only loss to Carlos Quintana (via a 1ST ROUND KO, ala Jones jr. vs. Montell Griffin!), William’s followed suit with another 1st round KO of  Andy Kolle at 158lbs.  Now Williams attempts to again fight up at light middleweight to take on WBO title holder Verno Phillips who is coming off victories over top names like Corey Spinks, Teddy Reid, Ike Quartey and Julian Jackson (though I’m forced to qualify this statement by saying all these fighters are arguably either overrated or past their prime).

The fight is on the 29th of this month in Killa -Cali and I’m picking my guy Paul to win by either KO or UD!  Check him out, the boy is straight filth out there.

Another fighter, who wants no part of Paul, “Sugar” Shane Mosley is switching plans to take on undefeated top contender Andre Berto on Jan 24th on HBO.  Originally Mosley was supposed to fight the great champ Antonio Margarito (who, by the way, was utterly sunned by Paul Williams on HBO last year, see pic above) but Margarito backed out of the deal citing that it was revenge for being turned down by De La Hoya and Golden boy promotions…  wow that’s idiotic sounding.

I pick Berto to win by Split Decision.

So Roy Jones Jr. suffers his 5th career loss to Joe Calslappy last weekend thanks to Teddy Atlas picking Roy to win in one of his infamous “Teddy’s Picks”.  I heard a rumor that some boxers have actually called Teddy and begged him not to pick them to win, due to the “Teddy’s Picks” curse.

Okay with that out the way, these next couple months are going to be very exciting!  Tomorrow night, former Olympic teammates Jeff “left hook” Lacy and Jermaine “bad intentions” Taylor will face off on HBO for a non-PPV fight which promises to be a battle… I’m picking Taylor to win by split decision.

Thursday Dec 4th, Winky Wright will be fighting Michi Munoz at Snoqualmie Resort and Casino in his first fight since he lost to B Hop.  Tickets are $50, Ill see u there!

Dec 6th, De la Hoya vs. Pacquiao!
Then hopefully on Jan 24th, Margarito vs. Mosley!
